History

Town of Harpers Ferry
-Located adjacent to the Town of Bolivar, Harpers Ferry is most well known for the John Brown Raid. Historical and Ghost Tours are available by private companies.

City of Charles Town
-Located only 10 minutes from Bolivar, Charles Town is one of the largest towns in Jefferson County.
-Charles Town was founded in 1786 by Charles Washington, brother of President George Washington.
-Historical Tours are available by private companies.

Town of Shepherdstown
-Shepherdstown is considered the oldest town in West Virginia, was founded in 1762.
-Located in northern Jefferson County, only 15 minutes from Bolivar.
-Historical Tours are available by private companies.

Antietam National Battlefield
-The Battle of Antietam (also known as the Battle of Sharpsburg) was fought in September 1862 and was the first major battle of the American Civil War fought on Northern soil.The battle contained the single bloodiest day of the Civil War with around 23,000 casualties.
-Open year round, except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.
-Self-guided driving tours are available.

Recreation

River Riders- 408 Alstadts Hill Rd, Harpers Ferry
-River Riders offers white water rafting, tubing, zip line tours, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and fishing.
-They also have primitive waterfront tent and RV camping on the Potomac River.

Harpers Ferry National Historic Park
-Park open daily from 8am-5pm and closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
-Park passes may be purchased at the fee collection entrance daily from 9am-5pm.
-HF NHP encompasses numerous parks and trails, such as Bolivar Heights, Maryland Heights, and Murphy Farm.

C & O Canal Park and Trail
-Park is open during daylight hours.
-Trail is located just across the Potomac River from Harpers Ferry.
